A collection of medical prescriptions and charms written in a mid-fifteenth century hand; the scribe, a Robert Thornton, has been variously identified with three persons of the name who flourished during that period. Robert Thornton of East Newton is considered the most probable person by the present editors and others. cf. Introd., p. viii-xv; Dict. nat. biog., v. 56, p. 303-304.
